The Fifth Council Meeting of the China Mainland-Hong Kong-Macao Legal Education Alliance was successfully held at the Faculty of Law, University of Macau, on December 6, 2024. Chaired by Professor Li Juqian, Director of the Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs and Director of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Education Center at China University of Political Science and Law, the meeting brought together representatives from 16-member institutions across the China Mainland, Hong Kong, and Macao to discuss the Alliance’s future development strategies.
Distinguished officials present included Mr. Wang Jianyuan, Deputy Director-General and Inspector at Level 1, and Mr. Pan Baoliang, Division Chief and First-Grade Inspector of the Department of Law of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong SAR; Mr. Bie Zhi, Division Chief, and Mr. Wu Jun, Deputy Division Chief of the Research Office of the Hong Kong and Macao Basic Law Committee of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress; and Ms. Zhang Jing, First-Grade Inspector of the Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs of the Ministry of Education.
Professor Ma Huaide, President of the China University of Political Science and Law, delivered the 2023-2024 work report of the Alliance. During the meeting, representatives engaged in comprehensive discussions on the Alliance’s 2025 work plan and voted on applications for new membership. Representatives from Gansu University of Political Science and Law, Zhejiang University, and Southwest University of Political Science and Law delivered speeches on behalf of their respective institutions. With these new additions, the Alliance’s membership has grown to 23 institutions.
Professor Tong Io Cheng, Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Macau, highlighted the Alliance’s pivotal role as a platform for legal education cooperation among China Mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. He emphasized the Alliance’s contributions to fostering collaboration and innovation in legal education and reiterated the University of Macau’s commitment to actively participating in the Alliance’s initiatives.
