“Ius est ars boni et aequi”
(“The law is the art of goodness and equity”).

Welcome to the Faculty of Law of the University of Macau (UMFLL). With its distinguished alumni, dedicated faculty members, efficient administrative team and most inspiring student peer group, UMFLL invites you to discover an exciting journey of the “legal way of life”, and to participate in the great enterprise of justice.

Established in the late 1980s as the first ever law faculty in the multi-centennial history of Macau, UMFLL is now widely regarded as the main incubator nurturing local legal professionals; in fact, UMFLL is the only law school dedicated to the teaching of law with an exclusive focus on the currently applicable Macau legal system at the undergraduate level, which makes it an excellent place for the preparation of lawyers serving the Macau legal profession. As a result, we proudly recognize/take note that the alumni of UMFLL are widely holding the highest local legal offices, including those of judges, prosecutors and senior practitioners in all areas of law.

Meanwhile, with its status as an intrinsic part of an international public comprehensive university, UMFLL is also distinguished faculty in Macau with a global perspective (first with its natural link with Portuguese Speaking Countries and Europe; then with its faculty composition of more than 40 members coming from 10 countries or regions). Such a unique composition makes it possible for UMFLL to offer post-graduate degrees and courses in three languages (Chinese, English and Portuguese), providing its students with a variety of choice and the privilege to be nurtured in a cross-cultural environment. Therefore, UMFLL also provides an excellent platform for the preparation of international and inter-regional legal talents with multicultural visions essential for legal practice in a globalized world.

As a successful experience of the “one-country, two systems” policy, the University of Macau is now experiencing an unprecedented opportunity to develop itself as an innovative world-class university, as encouraged by the visit and message of President Xi Jinping. With new challenges and unique opportunities arising from the “one-belt, one-road” policy, the framework for the Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau Greater Bay Area cooperation, and the designation of Macau to serve as a platform for enhancing economic relations with Portuguese speaking countries, UMFLL is fully committed to embark on a path of relentless efforts to scale new heights of excellence in the future.

To this end, the newly established programme “Bachelor of Law in Chinese Law and Global Legal Studies” taught in English language is designed to offer prospective students a unique opportunity to study both the main legal topics found in traditional legal education in the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and the major courses covering new trends of legal studies from global perspectives. We offer an exciting program of opportunities to conduct direct research of Chinese Law in a global context, which is not only attractive to students from Macao and the PRC but also aims to invite students from all around the world.

These features make the programme perfectly align with the visions and missions of the Faculty and the University as a whole. Specifically, the new programme will take full advantages of its unique global connections to cultivate leaders of high caliber to meet the needs of the development of Macau and the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin as one of the most energetic economic centres in the world.

I invite you to join the journey with us, and we are looking for the next generation of students to join UMFLL, including our many Bachelor, Master and Ph.D programmes. Here, you can enjoy, explore and achieve to bring the best out of you!
